Program Information

The Global Economic Education Alliance is offering a 11-day program to Peru through the UCCS based Center for Economic Education in conjunction with the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences.  It will provide a unique educational opportunity for program participants to exchange ideas on economic education with Peruvian colleagues and students as well as professionals from the U.S. Previous students have referred to this program as "an experience of a lifetime." Program participants can expect visits to secondary schools and universities in Peru to meet with teachers, students and education officials. Additionally, participants will attend a lecture at and visit the Central Bank of Peru as well as cultural visits to sites in Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machi Picchu.

Course and Credit Information

UCCS Undergradate credit: ECON 3980-Economics and Education in Latin America: Focus on Peru
Non-UCCS student credit (graduate extended studies): ECON 6310
Students seeking credit will be charged the appropriate UCCS tuition rate. 

A preparatory program will be held during the two months prior to departure online discussing Peruvian history, culture, politics and economic challenges. Upon returning participants will submit a Post-Tour Report to summarize the experience. 


Participants will be in double-occupancy accommodation with a fellow program participant.


Participants should expect to pay around the following for expenses:
Round trip airfare $1,200.00
In-country costs* $1,600.00
Insurance $20-50.00
Registration Fee $50.00
Tuition Depending on participant status

*In country costs include accommodation, meals, round trip airfare Lima to Cusco, ground transportation, Scared Valley tour, Machu Picchu entrance and tour.

Each participant will be responsible to send a check for $1,600.00 for in-country expenses payable to the Global Economic Education Alliance no later than April 6, 2018.

Dates and Itinerary

June 15-25th, 2018
June 15: Depart for Lima, Peru. Arrive at Lima Airport no later than 2:00AM  on June 16, 2018
June 16-20: Lima, Peru
June 21: Flight from Lima to Cusco
June 21-24: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu
June 24: Flight from Cusco to Lima. Participants fly home.
